Berkeley-Portugal Research Fellowship

The UC Berkeley Institute of European Studies and its Center for Portuguese Studies are pleased to announce the Berkeley-Portugal Fellowship for research in all fields at any Portuguese university and/or Portuguese language study in Portugal. This fellowship is offered in cooperation with the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD).

Founded in 2017, the Ana Hatherly Chair promotes the work of one of the most important and multifaceted Portuguese poets, Ana Hatherly. In this context, Camões, Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua and the Center for Portuguese Studies are pleased to announce a competition for a UC Berkeley graduate student research grant in the field of Portuguese Studies (broadly defined) of $1,000. Pinto-Fialon Scholarships and Fellowships (Graduate and Undergraduate)

With the support of the Pinto-Fialon Fund, the Center for Portuguese Studies offers fellowships to doctoral students embarking on dissertations focused on Portugal, and administers scholarships to undergraduate students of Portuguese descent.

Eligibility: The Pinto/Fialon Scholarships (undergraduate) and Fellowships (graduate) are open to Portuguese-American and Portuguese students at UC Berkeley (Portuguese-American students are defined as having at least one Portuguese grandparent).

FLAD Legislative Internships

FLAD has just launched the second edition of FLAD Legislative Internships, a program that gives young US citizens with Portuguese ancestry the opportunity to intern in the offices of US legislators also of Portuguese descent. Applications are open until March 10.

Main goal:

This call aims at selecting up to seven interns with an interest in public service and eager to acquire significant experience in the US legislative process.

Luso-American Financial Prize for Portuguese Studies (Undergraduates)

Founded in 2017, The Luso-American Financial Program for Luso-American Studies promotes research and the study of the Portuguese-American experience. In this context, the Luso-American Financial and the Center for Portuguese Studies are pleased to announce a prize of $250 to be awarded to the best paper or thesis on a Portuguese Studies topic (broadly defined) written by a UC Berkeley undergraduate in their senior year.

Papers must be nominated by a faculty member by May 15.
