The Center for Portuguese Studies supports cooperation between UC Berkeley and Portugal by providing funding for the invitation of a visiting professor from a Portuguese university to the Berkeley campus. Funding can be requested by UC Berkeley faculty members from all departments and all disciplines.
UC Berkeley faculty who wish to apply for funding to invite a visiting professor from a Portuguese university are required to submit a one-page application letter describing the intent of the visit and the duration of the guest’s intended stay, as well as a two-page CV of the guest, confirming that the latter has a permanent teaching position as a faculty member at a Portuguese university. Upon approval by the CSP Faculty Director, the Center for Portuguese Studies Executive Director will provide a Direct Bill-ID to the guest to cover the costs of an economy flight from Portugal to SFO, while the inviting Berkeley faculty member will receive a lump sum of $300/day to cover the costs of the guest’s stay in Berkeley. The latter funding will be sent to the faculty member’s home Department that is responsible for handling of all the administrative work relating to the invitation of the guest. The maximum amount of funding per guest, including flight costs, is $3,000. UC Berkeley faculty can invite only one visiting professor from Portugal per academic year. As a condition of receiving funding, awardees are required to submit a short report due no later than 1 month after the date of the visit.
