Dr. Akasemi Newsome is the Associate Director of UC Berkeley’s Institute of European Studies. At the Institute, she is also Executive Director of the Center for German and European Studies, Executive Director of the Peder Sather Center for Advanced Study, Co-Director of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence in European Union Studies and Founding Executive Director of the Center of Excellence for French and Francophone Studies. Gia White

Administrative Director

Gia White is the IES Administrative Director. She has a degree in Spanish Language and Literature from UC Berkeley and began her administrative career in Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences in 1989. She later worked for the Department of Anthropology and, in 1993, she came to International & Area Studies to work as the manager for the Center for German & European Studies, and worked closely with the Dean of International & Area Studies to successfully cluster different units into the Institute of European Studies. Rachaël Longuépée

Program Manager

Rachaël Longuépée is the Program Manager for the Institute of European Studies and the France-Berkeley Fund. She is responsible for managing the IES visiting scholars' program and works on a broad range of events and initiatives including international research exchanges and the undergraduate apprentice program (URAP). Rachaël provides support to the Austrian Studies Program, the Irish Studies Program, the Program for the Study of Italy, and other IES programs. Sydney Weaver

Program Manager

Sydney Weaver is the Program Manager for the Institute of European Studies at UC Berkeley, where she supports a range of academic programs, including acting as Executive Director of the Center for Portuguese Studies, Program Co-ordinatorof Modern Greek & Hellenic Studies Program, and Assistant Director the Center for British Studies, and the Center for Anglo-American Studies.
