On September 18, 2026, the Dutch Studies Program at UC Berkeley welcomed Antoinet Brink of the University of Coimbra, Portugal, for a lecture exploring the life and literary career of José Rentes de Carvalho, a Portuguese author whose experiences between Portugal and the Netherlands shaped his writing andcultural identity. Titled José Rentes de Carvalho: Hinkend tussen twee landen, twee talen (“Wavering Between Two Countries, Two Languages”), the lecture examined the challenges of living between cultures and writing across linguistic boundaries.
