The funds raised during the Big Give assist graduate students with crucial expenses needed for their research abroad, and help undergraduate students develop their future research plans.

For more than 30 years, the Institute of European Studies has been fostering dialogue and cooperation with Europe on the Berkeley campus. From travel grants to funding for the study of less commonly taught languages, IES offers an array of giving opportunities to help our students thrive.

If you believe in our mission, we hope you'll show your support for IES during this year's BIG GIVELearn more about how you can support our Institute, and help us foster innovative international learning and research, then come back on March 9th
to amplify the impact and positive experience of our incredible students, faculty, and research for years to come.

Student Testimonials

Hear what our students have to say about the impact of your gift!

I want to thank the Institute of European Studies for giving me the resources so that I could come to Britain and other research sites. I was not going to be able to do this, to come and look at these sources, until I got the grant. Corona had stolen so much time from my program, and the Institute of European Studies gave that time back to me. I'm incredibly grateful.
Eva Vaillancourt
The Institute of European Studies has truly made a difference in my doctoral studies in Berkeley, allowing me to learn from Europeanists in other disciplines, and thus improving and expanding my work scope as a doctoral student in architecture history. Last year, thanks to the support of the Gerald D. and Norma Feldman Graduate Student Dissertation Fellowship, I was able to conduct archival research in Spain for my dissertation.
