Berkeley-Viadrina Travel & Research Grant (faculty)

IES is pleased to announce a travel and research grant opportunity for UC Berkeley faculty and lecturers in all fields offered by European University Viadrina, located in Frankfurt/Oder, Germany, near Berlin (one-hour commute) and on the German-Polish border.

Viadrina University is a relatively small university with an excellent student-teacher ratio and a broad range of research and courses in the social sciences and liberal arts (“Kulturwissenschaften”) as well as law and business administration. The University stands out among German institutions due to its specific focus on the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of the transformation processes in Central and Eastern Europe, the history and literature in the region, the research focus on international migration and xenophobia, and the changing role of borders and orders in a multidisciplinary way - all within the framework of an international research network covering both the EU and the US.

Eligibility: All Berkeley faculty and lecturers are encouraged to apply for an opportunity to stay up to two weeks in Viadrina (shorter and longer stays are possible).

Award amount: Viadrina will cover travel costs in economy class of up to EUR 1,500 and provide free accommodation at a guest apartment in Frankfurt/Oder (optional).

Berkeley professors/lectuers are expected to offer at least one lecture or workshop during their stay. Berkeley professors/lecturers who, in cooperation with a Viadrina professor, wish to offer a 30-hour block class (min.), will receive additional funding.

Application Instructions:

Please submit the following materials:
