Berkeley-MCI The Entrepreneurial School (Innsbruck) Research and Teaching Fellowship

IES is pleased to announce a research and teaching opportunity for UC Berkeley graduate students in all fields, offered by MCI. The Entrepreneurial School (Innsbruck, Austria). 

MCI is one of the most successful universities of applied sciences in Europe. Business experts in demand teach in small groups, renowned lecturers ensure academic quality across all areas, and personal support in degree program assists students with endeavors such as internships, research projects, and stays abroad.

Award amount: This program offers a monthly grant of €1,000, paid upon arrival in Innsbruck. Students can apply for a stay of up to 4 months. Shorter or longer stays are possible upon mutual agreement. MCI will require students to have a faculty mentor at one of its departments.

Teaching opportunities: Teaching opportunities for doctoral students from UC Berkeley are available in all academic departments. They depend on the needs of the respective departments and will be agreed upon individually. Teaching opportunities need to be supported by a faculty mentor at MCI and confirmed at least 2 months before the student’s arrival in Innsbruck. Remuneration for teaching activities will be based on the number of taught units (1 teaching unit is 45 minutes) according to MCI’s current remuneration policy for external guest lecturers and is subject to Austrian national social insurance contributions and payroll taxes.

Eligibility: Applicant must be a degree-seeking student at UC Berkeley during the application process and must remain enrolled during the entire study period at MCI.

Applicants must provide an invitation letter by a faculty host at MCI. UC Berkeley applicants and their host at MCI must have agreed on the research and/or teaching activities to be undertaken prior to the start of the mobility period. 

Application Instructions

Applicants must submit the following required materials:

  • A one-page cover letter, including a 100-word (max) abstract of your research and/or teaching interest + indication of the duration of your stay
  • A research and or teaching statement of approximately 1,500 words
  • One letter of recommendation from a UC Berkeley faculty member; this letter should be sent to ies@berkeley.edu
  • One invitation letter from a faculty member at MCI, indicating the duration of your stay 
  • A short CV (max 2 pages)
