The partnership between UC Berkeley and the University of Luxembourg was established in 2015. Both universities are now seeking to intensify their collaboration, and the University of Luxembourg is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity for Berkeley graduate students wishing to explore dissertation research opportunities in Luxembourg.
An internationally relevant research University
- With students originating from 113 countries, academic staff from 20 countries as well as over 100 partner universities around the globe, “internationality” is probably one of the qualifiers which characterizes the University of Luxembourg best.
- The three languages used, several master programs in reference to Europe, the background of the personnel and the country, as well as adjunct staff coming from many European institutions, make the University of Luxembourg more European than most other universities.
A University well connected to the business and to the society of Luxembourg, contributing to the country’s future
- Partnership with the business world has played a major role in the development of Luxembourg University. Several banks (Deutsche Bank, Banque et Caisse d’Épargne de l’État) as well as several companies (Arcelor-Mittal, IEE, HiTec, P&T Luxembourg, SES, Eurobeton, Delphi) finance research. The Chamber of Commerce co-finances the Master in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Many of the master students and PhD candidates undertake their thesis in close collaboration with an industrial or business partner, and are often co-financed by the company.
- Society is another of the references. Examples are a Jean Monnet Chair in Contemporary European History and a UNESCO Chair in Human Rights.
The scholarship has a duration of up to three months and is available for Berkeley graduate students from all fields.
Students will need to make their own travel and housing accommodations. This fellowship can be cominbed with other IES grants/fellowships.
PLEASE NOTE: Grant recipients are expected to complete their research stay in residence at the designated partner university during the calendar year they applied for (not the end of the school year).
Award amount: The fellowship offered by the University of Luxembourg is EUR 1,500/month and will be paid upon arrival in Luxembourg.
