The partnership between UC Berkeley and the London School of Economics (LSE) was established in 2015. Both universities are now seeking to intensify their collaboration, and IES, in partnership with the Sidney Stern Memorial Trust, is pleased to announce two scholarships for Berkeley graduate students wishing to do research at LSE.
Founded in 1895 by social and economic pioneers Beathrice and Sidney Webb, the London School of Economics and Political Science has been pioneering social science research, challenging existing ways of thinking, and seeking to understand the causes of things in order to transform them for over a century. LSE ranked first in Europe and second in the world for social sciences and management in the QS subject rankings 2020. The School has grown from 200 students in 1895 to around 11,000 students and 3,000 faculty today. It counts 18 Nobel Prize winners among its faculty and alumni, and numerous world leaders. It is committed to building a vibrant, equitable and truly inclusive environment in which staff and students from all over the world come together.
The Stern Trust Fellowship has a duration of up to one month maximum (shorter stays are possible). Students will need to organize their own flight and accommodation. The successful applicants will be offered a $1,000 travel stipend. The total amount of this fellowship will be paid to the successful applicant by IES in the form of a stipend. Preference will be given to Berkeley students who can demonstrate in their application that they already have a faculty contact at LSE.
This grant can be combined with other IES grants.
Please note: Visiting students at LSE are subject to a fee of £1,500 per term.
