The Austrian Studies Program at IES is part of a worldwide network of Austria Centers [1], including New Orleans, Minneapolis, Edmonton, Leiden, Olmütz, Budapest, Jerusalem and Vienna. Two graduate students from Berkeley are able to participate at the annual Austrian Studies Convention, organized by one of the centers, where they will have an opportunity to present their research. All fields from the Humanities and Social Sciences, in the broadest sense, are included, as long as the research topic deals with Austria or one of the Eastern European nations that emerged from the former Habsburg Empire. After the convention, their presentations are printed in a collected volume edited by the Institut für Osteuropäische Geschichte at the University of Vienna.
