IES is proud to announce that Dr. Lukas Repa has been selected as its new EU Fellow for the 2017/18 academic year. Repa is a lawyer who, after 18 years of professional experience in Vienna (Austria) and Brussels (Belgium) and clerkships in Istanbul and New York, has developed a strong expertise in antitrust and state aid policy. Repa has a solid sectorial experience in capital markets and retail banking including in payment systems. He also acquired a fair knowledge of the EU energy sector, the audiovisual sector and the telecom sector. He currently works as civil servant for the EU’s Commission in the Directorate General for Competition holding the position of a Deputy Head of Unit. In Berkeley, Repa will conduct research on technological innovation in financial markets (fintech). His interests range from regulatory aspects affecting fintech innovation to the disruptive potential of fintech for incumbent banks and the potential of crowdfunding to finance micro companies. Repa holds both a Dr.iur. (JSD) and a Mag.iur. (JD) from Alma Mater Rudolfina University of Vienna and an LL.M from the renowned College of Europe, Bruges (Belgium). Repa speaks German, Dutch, French and English.
