Eric Falci arrived at UC Berkeley in the fall of 2006 after finishing his Ph.D. at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in May 2006. He is a Professor in the Department of English, and head of the Irish Studies Program within the Institute of European Studies. Under his direction, the Irish Studies Program has hosted several notable speakers, including President Michael D. Higgins.
Professor Falci’s book on contemporary Irish poetry, Continuity and Change in Irish Poetry, 1966-2010, appeared in 2012 (Cambridge University Press), and his second book, The Cambridge Introduction to British Poetry, 1945-2010, was published in 2015. He has also written numerous articles on modern and contemporary Irish and British poetry. His third book, tentatively titled Poetry and the Problem of Music, focuses on the conjunctions and disjunctions between poetry and music in 19th- and 20th-century British, Irish, and American literature.
