In order to contribute to the development of the Portuguese scientific and academic community, FLAD, in partnership with the Center for Portuguese Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, will award two grants of $20,000 each to two Portuguese doctoral candidates accepted and enrolled at UC Berkeley.
The support is intended to finance the first year of studies of these doctoral candidates and will be awarded in equal parts by FLAD and the Pinto-Fialon Fund of the University of California, Berkeley.
Applications for the academic year 2023/2024
- The program is aimed at Portuguese students in the first year of their PhD programs at the University of California, Berkeley.
- All scientific fields will be considered.
- Students accepted into doctoral programs in the 2023/2024 academic year are eligible.
- The selection of candidates is made jointly by FLAD and the Center of Portuguese Studies of UC Berkeley.
Grant Value
- The total amount of the grant is worth $ 20.000.00 for each student:
- $10.000.00 will be awarded directly by FLAD.
- $10.000.00 to be allocated by the Pinto-Fialon Fund.
Application instructions:
Applicants must submit the following documents:
- CV.
- Description of the intended study plan (maximum 3 pages).
- Letter of motivation.
- Document proving the acceptance from the University of California, Berkeley.
- The grant will be formalized and paid upon presentation of proof of the PhD student’s enrollment at the University of California, Berkeley.
Deadlines:
- The application period runs until the 31st of May of 2023.
- A report shall be sent to FLAD within 90 days after the conclusion of the grant period.
- The result of the selection will be communicated to applicants by e-mail address by June 15th, 2023.
