In order to contribute to the development of the Portuguese scientific and academic community, FLAD in partnership with the Center for Portuguese Studies will award a grant to Portuguese doctoral students who wish to develop their PhD research thesis at UC Berkeley.
Applications for the academic year 2023/2024
- The grant will benefit a Portuguese student included in a PhD program at a Portuguese university;
- All scientific fields are considered;
- This open call is for the academic year of 2023/2024;
- The length of stay at UC Berkeley can range from a minimum of 3 months to a maximum of 12 months;
Grant Value
- The grant has a total value of $10,000;
- $5,000 will be made available directly by FLAD to the grantee;
- $5,000 is intended to cover the University of California, Berkeley’s fees for obtaining a visa and access to the University’s academic resources;
- This amount does not include health insurance.
Application instructions:
Applicants must submit the following documents:
- CV;
- Description of the outlined study plan (maximum 3 pages);
- Motivation letter;
- Letter of recommendation from the Portuguese institution to which you are linked;
- Letter of acceptance from the University of California, Berkeley as a visiting researcher;
- A budget of the stay and indication of other sources of funding and approved amounts;
Deadlines:
- The application period is open until March 20, 2023.
- Within 90 days after the conclusion of the grant period, a report shall be sent to FLAD.
