IES Berkeley-Austria Pre-dissertation and Dissertation Fellowships
The UC Berkeley Institute of European Studies and the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation are pleased to announce a competition for a Pre-Dissertation and Dissertation Research Grant for graduate students in the Social Sciences (including Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Law, History and Sociology), and the Humanities at all UC campuses. All grant proposals are welcome but preference will be given to projects in one of the strategic research areas of the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation, including The Future of Industry from a Social and Economic Perspective, Work Profiles of the Future: Dual Education & Apprenticeship, and Transatlantic Connections between Austria and the United States. This award will amount to $6,000 for three months. Successful applicants will receive a temporary affiliation with the host institution in Austria. Applicants must be registered students at a University of California campus and will be expected to demonstrate how their proposed research is part of a broader course of study supervised by a member of faculty. Students will be expected to make their own travel and living arrangements.
Students applying for this grant should submit the following documents:
A one-page application letter, including a 100-word (maximum) abstract of your research and indication of the Austrian university of your choice and the duration of your stay
A further description of no more than three pages that describes your research (for more details on what information to include in your description, please check the Marshall Plan's website)
One letter of recommendation from a UC Berkeley faculty member
One letter from your research supervisor at an Austrian university, with indication of the duration of your stay (preferred)
An unofficial transcript of your graduate coursework
A short cv.
