CONFERENCE

The End of the Old Regime in the Iberian World

February 8-9, 2008, UC Berkeley

Well-established and younger specialists in history, literature and the history of art came together for a two-day conference marking the 200th anniversary of Napoleon's invasion of Portugal and Spain that set off events leading to the end of their absolute monarchies and the break-up of their American empires. The conference drew on new research and the experience of senior scholars to rethink the significance of these developments for the cultural, social, and political life of the Iberian world on both sides of the Atlantic.
