The Voice and Choice of Women
In Portugal and in the Diaspora
April 21- 24, 2005
The I International Conference, "The Voice
and Choice of Portuguese Immigrant Women," was held at the
University of Toronto, Canada
in September of 2003. This conference celebrated half a century
of Portuguese immigration in Canada, and established a forum
for the discussion of the Portuguese women’s immigration
experience. The Portuguese Studies Program of the University
of California, Berkeley will be sponsoring a second International
Conference, which will follow the same scope of discussion,
but will add the dimension of women’s experience in
their country of origin, considering the new phenomenon of
emigration
that is presently being experienced in Portugal.
The conference will be structured in three main formats: Lectures,
panels, and posters sessions.

O I Congresso Internacional A
VEZ E A VOZ DA MULHER IMIGRANTE PORTUGUESA, realizou-se
na Universidade de Toronto, Canadá,
em Setembro de 2003. Nele se celebrou meio século de
imigração portuguesa no Canadá, e se estabeleceu
um forum para a reflexão sobre a mulher imigrante portuguesa
nos vários continentes e inúmeros países
em que terá reconstruído a sua vida. O Programa
de Estudos Portugueses da Universidade da California, Berkeley,
propõe-se realizar um II Congresso Internacional, na
sequência deste processo de reflexão, desta vez
incluindo a contribuição feminina no país
de origem, dado o novo fenómeno surgido em Portugal
de uma crescente onda de imigração.
O Congresso será estruturado
a partir de três formas de trabalho: conferências,
painéis e cartazes (poster session).
