The Italian Studies Program sponsors and cosponsors
events of interest to faculty and students with interests in
Italy in a variety of disciplines. We consider Italy as well
in comparative relation to Europe and the Mediterranean, and
in transglobal terms. During the 2007-08 academic year ISP is
cosponsoring a major conference entitled "Nationalization,
Conflict, and Cultural Crisis: Making Italians (1870-1914)" organized by
Simon Levis-Sullam, post-doctoral fellow in the Department of
Italian Studies. We will also consponsor the annual CICIS
Conference to be held in February 2008 at our sister campus in Satna Cruz
on the general topic of Italy and violence (dates and times TBA).
The CICIS Conference features presentations by both faculty and
graduate students from throughout California. The most recent
meeting (March 2007) was held at California State University,
Long Beach.
