Irina Paperno is Professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures at UC Berkeley. She specializes in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Russian literature and Russian and European intellectual history. Her interests focus on the interrelations between literature and experience. She teaches courses on Russian literature and on the European novel. Her books include:: “Who, What am I”: Tolstoy Struggles to Narrate the Self (2014), Stories of the Soviet Experience: Memoirs, Diaries, Dreams (2009), and Suicide as a Cultural Institution in Dostoevsky's Russia (1997).
