Gérard Roland is E. Morris Cox Professor of Economics as well as Professor of Political Science. He received his Ph.D. from the Université libre de Bruxelles in 1988, where he then taught from 1988 to 2001. He is the author of over 150 journal articles, book chapters and books and has been published in leading economics journals. He wrote the leading graduate textbook Transition and Economics published in 2000 at MIT Press and translated in various languages, including Chinese and Russian. He co-organized with Olivier Blanchard a Nobel symposium on the transition economics in 1999. His 2007 book Democratic Politics in the European Parliament with Simon Hix and Abdul Noury has received the Richard F. Fenno Prize for the Best Book Published in the Field of Legislative Studies during 2007. He served as editor of the Journal of Comparative Economics between 2007 and. He was a fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in Behavioral Sciences at Stanford from 1998-1999. He was named Jean Monnet Professor at Université libre de Bruxelles in 2001 and received an Honorary Professorship at Renmin University of China in 2002.
