Kate
van Orden
Assistant
Professor of Music
Professor
van Orden's primary areas of interest are French Renaissance lyric,
ballet du cour, and print culture. She is currently writing a book
entitled Music and Military Virtue in Early Modern France,
which considers the role of music in the civilizing process in France,
particularly its role in the culture of the military aristocracy
at the end of the Renaissance. In conjunction with this project,
she reconstructed and directed Le carrousel du roi at the
2000 Berkeley Festival of Early Music, an equestrian ballet performed
for Louis XIII in 1612.
