Sharon Marcus

Associate Professor of English

Professor Marcus' research interests center on the 19th-century novel and on the relationship between literature, urban culture, and domestic architecture in 19th-century Paris and London. Her book, Apartment Stories: City and Home in Nineteenth-Century Paris and London, is an interdisciplinary study that examines architectural plans, works of urban observation and planning, public health discourse, and novels by Balzac and Zola. She has also published an introduction to Balzac's Physiology of Marriage, and co-authored an essay in the MLA casebook, "Approaches to Teaching Old Goriot."
