Geoffrey
Koziol
Associate
Professor of History
Professor
Koziol is a medievalist whose long-term research goal is to understand
the nature of alliances in making France and French political culture.
That project has led him to investigate forgery, oaths, and ideas
of truth in 9th- and 10th-century administrative procedures and
sources. He is currently working on diplomatics and the non-pragmatic
purposes of writing in the 10th century, in preparation of an alternative
history of the 10th-century civil wars that emphasizes honor, family,
and memory. He is the author of Begging Pardon and Favor: Ritual
and Political Order in Early Medieval France, and, most recently,
a chapter on "Political Culture" in the forthcoming Oxford
History of Medieval France.
