The Department
of Scandinavian offered a new course on Finnish
Culture and History this
past term, taught by Finnish Studies Program
Director John Lindow. It examined Finland
from a broad perspective — history,
literature, folklore, nation building,
the visual arts, cinema, music, and contemporary
society. Several invited guest lecturers
from Cal and abroad also spoke about their
areas of expertise (from literature to art
history). This course serves to round out
the Finnish
