Report on October 2002 Brussels meeting of the EU Transregionalism Convenor Group
Vinod K. Aggarwal
In October 2002, the convenor group on European Transregionalism met with a group from ULB in Brussels
for joint
conference. The discussion were very fruitful and led to a spirited
discussion on the differences between transregionalism and interregionalism, the relatively weights of
different driving factors underlying the move toward different types of transregional trading agreements,
and the reasons why the EU appears to be pursuing a different strategy than the U.S. Aggarwal remains
in touch with Mario Teló and plans to continue the collaboration, possibly funded through an EU grant.
Following the meeting with the ULB participants, the Berkeley convenor group met together to discuss
various conceptual, theoretical, and empirical issues for several hours. The organizers, Vinod Aggarwal
and Edward Fogarty took extensive notes based on the discussion. In subsequent meetings, Aggarwal and
Fogarty met to revise the introduction to the volume and to provide more specific guidelines to the
participants in view of the changes in the theoretical approach.
The revised papers are now being sent in. The volume has been accepted for publication by Palgrave
and will appear both in hardback and paperback as per the contract.
