French Studies Program:
2002 Events and Objectives
The French Studies Program at IES will continue in it capacity as
a interdisciplinary program to promote French and Francophone research
exchange. Programs include conferences, lectures, research exchange,
and forums for faculty and graduate student dicussions.
2002 FrSP Events*
- February 14, 4pm >> Public lecture by Professor Tyler
Stovall from the Department of History entitled "Forget It!
Colonialism, Nationalism, and the Limits of Memory"
- March 15-16 >> "Interrogating the status of French,
French-ness, and France in 'Francophone' Literatures, Cultures,
and Polities" presented by Francophone Studies™, an interdisciplinary
graduate student conference.
- April 5-6 >> Stanford-Berkeley Grad Student Conference
on "French Memory and Identity"
- April 25-26 >> International Symposium, "Disciplines
Unbound: A French-American Dialog" with the participation of
Arthur Goldhammer, Jaques Revel, Susanna Barrows, Susan Guerlac,
Peter Sahlins, and Carla Hesse among others.
- TBA >> CNRS public lecture by Michel Giruad from the
University of Antillaise-Guyanne, Martinique. "Memory and Race
in Contemporary Martinique."
