The France Berkeley Fund (cont.)

.... The FBF has a new director of the Evaluation Committee in France, Professor Christian Amatore, Chair of the Department of Chemistry at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, and Member of the French Académie des Sciences. He is also editor of the major international electrochemical journal (Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry). His research involves the development of electrochemical methodologies so that extremely complex mechanisms of organic and organometallic chemistry can be investigated under the very conditions used by synthetic chemists.

The France Berkeley Fund has also a new executive director, Susanna Barrow. A respected historian, Chair of French Studies Program at UC Berkeley, and member of the Evaluation Committee of the FBF since 2003, Susanna received her PhD at Yale. She has a long and prolific relationship with France. Since the 1980’s she has published a large number of books and essays on topics related to French politics and culture in the nineteenth-century. She is currently working on “Drink and Café Culture in Nineteenth-Century France”.

Christian and Susanna form a complementary team and are strong assets for the FBF. They are very committed to keeping collaboration between France and UC-Berkeley vibrant, to enhance the visibility of the Fund and to increase the number of grants awarded.

The application deadline for 2006 grants is scheduled to be 01/31/2006. For further information, visit our web site http://ies.berkeley.edu/fbf/ or call (510) 643-5799.
