Center for British Studies Fall Events

September 12, 4 pm
The new Irish Studies International Speakers Series will host its first event at 4 PM in the Geballe Rm, Townsend Center. Professor Jane Ohylmeyer (Trinity College, Dublin) will be speaking on "The 'Old British and Irish Histories': Where do We Go from Here?". This new series is made possible by the Irish government, the Irish Consulate of San Francisco in association with the Western Institute of Irish Studies, and the Center for British Studies at Berkeley.

Sir David King in Conversation with Michael Pollan and Sandy Tollan on "Climate Change: The International Response." -- Earlier, King will be interviewed by Harry Kreisler for his broadcast "Conversations in History."

September 23-2, Geballe Room
The first Mellon Consortia Conference on British Studies, in conjunction with the Center for British Studies at University of Chicago and British historians at Yale University.  This conference will revisit debates about economic modernization. Plenary speakers include Gareth Stedman Jones (Cambridge), Deborah Valenze (Barnard) and Robert Brenner (UCLA).
