The Austrian Studies Program at IES is part of a worldwide network of Austria Centers, including New Orleans, Minneapolis, Edmonton, Leiden, Olmütz, Budapest, Jerusalem and Vienna. Starting in 2018, two graduate students from Berkeley will be able to participate at the annual Austrian Studies Convention, organized by one of the centers, where they will have an opportunity to present their research. All fields from the Humanities and Social Sciences, in the broadest sense, are included, as long as the research topic deals with Austria or one of the Eastern European nations that emerged from the former Habsburg Empire. After the convention, all presentations will be printed in a collected volume edited by the Institut für Osteuropäische Geschichte at the University of Vienna. Moreover, whenever the convention takes place in North America, the two selected graduate students will also be invited to attend the annual conference of the German Studies Association. All travel and accommodation costs for both conferences will be covered.
